Bombay High Court gets 9 new judges; working strength rises to 62 [19.7.22]

The 9 lawyers who took oath as additional judges of Bombay High Court were recommended by the Collegium on February 16, 2022 which was notified by the Centre on July 16, 2022.

Nine lawyers took oath as 'additional judges' of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday taking the working strength of the Court to 62.

The judges who took oath are:

1.      Kishore Chandrakant Sant;

2.      Valmiki Menezes SA;

3.      Kamal Rashmi Khata;

4.      Sharmila Uttamrao Deshmukh;

5.      Arun Ramnath Pednekar;

6.      Sandeep Vishnupant Marne;

7.      Gauri Vinod Godse;

8.      Rajesh Shantaram Patil;

9.      Arif Saleh Doctor.

The Supreme Court had recommended their names for elevation to High Court on February 16, 2022. The Central government then notified their appointment on July 16, 2022.

Before the judges took oath, the High Court was operating at a strength of 53 judges (44 permanent and 9 additional judges) as against its sanctioned strength of 94 judges.

The strength now will become of 62 judges.
